YRDA and KR Sport driver Olli Caldwell enjoyed a very strong weekend at round three of the Rotax Euro Challenge.

The third round of the season was where things started to fall in to place in terms of Olli’s championship podium attempts. The location was Zuera in Spain, perhaps the fastest track in Europe, predominantly made up of long sweeping corners and long straights. There is no room for error and it would all come down to who could time their race to perfection.

Despite pole position in qualifying an unfortunate first heat, that saw Olli finish 21st, meant he would line up on 6th for the Pre-Final. Olli’s pole in qualifying was no fluke and he proved that in the Pre-Final working his way through to as high as 2nd place before being classified in 3rd placing him in almost the perfect position for the final.

What followed was arguably the best race of the season. It took Olli just three laps to hit the front, but once there he was soon passed by Dylan Buys.

Olli followed Buys until an emerging threat from Charpentier appeared which saw him go back through to the lead at turn one on lap eight. With assistance now from
Charpentier, the pair opened up a slight gap over Kimber and Buys, but Charpentier then hit the front with just over a lap to go. With Olli now trying to attack and defend at the same time, he wasn’t quite able to get victory but it was a very good day at the office for him with a 3rd and 2nd!
